“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling,” Ephesians 1:17-18

Paul prayed this prayer for the Ephesian church, but it’s really a prayer for all believers. That’s why it’s in the Bible. He was praying that the eyes of our understanding would be enlightened to know the hope of God’s calling. Our Christian calling is important because it’s what we were created for, and to fulfill our calling is really to the fulfillment of our lives in this world. Our calling was prepared for us before we were born, but we need God’s enlightening to understand it. It doesn’t come by education or experience. It comes from revelation from the Word of God. Psalms 119:130 says, The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. The more Word we have inside us, the more light and understanding we have of our calling!

David found his calling in the Word. He meditated in the Word day and night (Ps. 1:1-3). When he was the shepherd of his father’s flocks, he rose up in supernatural strength to protect the sheep against predators like the lion and the bear that he mentioned in I Samuel 17:34-36. He received that strength by meditating on the Word. When we meditate on the Word day and night, we too will receive supernatural strength to walk in the power and anointing of our calling in mighty demonstration of the Spirit!

Pray this prayer in Ephesians continually over yourself:

  1. To be filled with the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in order to know Him!
  2. To know that you are complete in Him, that your identity in Christ be full!
  3. For the eyes of your understanding to be enlightened to true, personal knowledge of your calling and your purpose to be fulfilled!

Give His Word entrance and receive the fullness of His calling on your life!

With love,

Pastor Tom
