“And they could not answer him again to these things.” Luke 14:6

Once again, the lawyers and Pharisees were looking to find fault with Jesus, and with one question He muzzled them. He said, “Which of you, having a donkey or an ox that has fallen into a pit, will not immediately pull him out on the Sabbath day?” By asking that question, He revealed their hypocrisy. He was in effect, saying, “Why is it that you treat your animals better than you treat people!” And “they could not answer him.” Notice, it doesn’t say they wouldn’t answer Him. It says they couldn’t answer Him!

Jesus silenced them by exposing them. He was showing them that they ignored the law when it was inconvenient for them to obey it, but when it came to actual results, they used the law to justify their lack of faith! Someone may think, why did Jesus shame them like that? He didn’t! He did the will of God and the light in Him revealed the darkness in them and it left them totally disarmed and exposed.

When we do the will of God, we will expose darkness, we will disarm the prideful and self-exalted, but we will also help those who are in need – those who God loves and wants to heal and deliver. The devil will do anything he can to stop that, but it’s hard for him to bite back when his followers are muzzled by the power and demonstration of the Spirit!

I Peter 2:15 tells us; “For so is the will of God, that with well doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men.”  Well doing is healing the sick! Well doing is casting out demons!  That’s what silences the voice of ignorance! That’s how we muzzle the current trends we’re witnessing! But, more importantly, that’s what allows God to work through us to reach those who have been muzzled by fear and give them something to shout about, because the Truth has made them Free!

With Love,
