“And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.” Acts 12:7
I’ve been praying about the coming year, the future of TLC and what God has for us. The Lord led me to this scripture and began to realize this is a “now” word for us! We all need a wake-up call from time to time. Peter was glad to get this one! He was in prison and under the sentence of death. King Herod had just beheaded James, the brother of John, and Peter was next on Herod’s kill list. I’ve often wondered how Peter could have been sleeping
soundly knowing that his execution was imminent. My personal belief is that Peter was resting in what Jesus told him, that he would live to be an old man (John 21:18), and Peter’s trust in those words gave him rest in his soul and peace in his heart. By this time, Peter knew that heaven and earth would pass away, but the Words of Jesus wouldn’t! Peter was secure in that. He knew that, in Christ, his future and eternity were secure.
However, while Peter slept, an angel was sent to deliver him from prison. He entered Peter’s cell and found Peter asleep. He struck Peter on his side and raised him up. Peter’s chains fell off and the prison doors and gates opened of their own accord as the angel led him out of the prison. Peter thought he was dreaming all this, but when the angel departed, he found himself standing in the street a free man!
As believers, we could also sleep easy, like Peter, we know our eternity is secure. We too could sleep away our time on this earth – BUT – there is much to be done! Peter’s release wasn’t just for Peter’s benefit, but also for the Church at large. This was Peter’s wake-up call! There was much to do!
Don’t be surprised if 2020 will be a year in which angelic wake-up calls will come and chains of bondage suddenly fall off; assignments given; doors of opportunity to minister in the power of the Spirit open up to us! I believe we are sitting on a spiritual powder keg of salvations, healings, miracles and an abundance of spiritual gifts flowing through the Body of Christ. This is all due to the fact that we are in the latter rains and God wants His abundant harvest of souls!
And, as in the 12 th chapter of Acts, all these things must be fueled by prayer (Acts 12:5). Are you up for the visitations, the miracles and supernatural empowerments? Then let’s start praying unceasingly and specifically for God’s Word to go out unhindered, the Body of Christ be unified and mobilized for specific assignments coming from God. As it says also in Ephesians 5:14 “Awake you who sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light!”
