“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” John 16:7

Is the Holy Spirit a mystery to you? He doesn’t have to be! In fact, God never intended for us to have to guess about the Holy Spirit. Jesus told us who the Holy Spirit is and what we could expect from Him. Some helpful scriptures to study are found in John chapters 14 through 16, and I Corinthians 12 & 14. It’s necessary to understand that Jesus called the Holy Spirit the Teacher, the Comforter, and the Helper! He is the ultimate Teacher, Comforter and Helper!

Living in this physical world, we are confined to time and distance. But the Holy Spirit is not. He is the eternal God who spans from the beginning of time to the end of time. He operates according to the will of the Father and, since the universe began, He is the creative power of God’s Word! And Jesus said He lives in us – to help us! Wow…!

The Holy Spirit was sent to Help us, Teach us, Comfort us, Guide us and Supply us with His supernatural power! He opens our understanding of the scriptures to guide us into all Truth! His greatest desire is to empower the Church to reveal the real Jesus to this world! Jesus said, we shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8). It requires supernatural power to be witnesses for Christ in the earth! After all, it’s the Holy Spirit, not us, who bears witness of Jesus!

The first step to experiencing the Holy Spirit’s Help is to open your heart to the fact that you need help. He won’t force His help on anyone. The truth is, we all need more help than we realize! His help comes in different ways. Sometimes it comes in instructions. Other times guidance or revelation. Many times, it’s just a sudden understanding that comes to us, or wisdom to know what to do. There are also gifts of the Spirit which bring healing, miracles, words of wisdom and knowledge, and even prophetic utterances through prophecy, tongues and interpretation of tongues. Once you begin moving in the Spirit, you’ll just want more of whatever He’s got! He is the Helper and He delights in helping us.

Let’s begin to treasure the Holy Spirit beyond the treasures of this world. When we do, we’ll discover the most valuable treasure of all – the unlimited resources that are ours with the gift of the Holy Spirit!

With Love,
Pastor Tom
