“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” I John 4:18

The disciples rushed to the back of the boat, where Jesus was sleeping. They began yelling out to Him, “Don’t you care that we are perishing?” They were filled with fear! Then, when Jesus got up and rebuked the winds and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still,” there was a “GREAT CALM!”

Well, they got their answer, didn’t they! He does care! But, do you see what fear does? It gets us to question God’s love for us. If the enemy can get us to question God’s love instead of believing in God’s love, our self-image will succumb to that of a victim instead of a victor. The devil knows that if he can get us into questions he can neutralize our faith. He knows that “Faith is the victory that overcomes the world (I John 5:4)!”  The primary tactic of the enemy is to get us to question God’s love. If the enemy can get us to question God’s love rather than believe in His love, he can keep us in fear, and its torments!

Here is a powerful truth… Romans 5:5 tells us that when we received the Holy Spirit, the love of God was poured into our hearts! I never saw the power of that truth until I understood that, because His love was already in me, the power of fear has already been broken over my life giving me total freedom from fear! That’s not because fear isn’t real, but because His love casts out fear the same way light casts out darkness, JUST BY SHOWING UP! The fact that He has equipped us with His love means we will never be out of His reach or beyond His Covenant promises! No storm can pose a threat to those who know and believe in God’s love!

Let’s grow and mature in His love by renewing our minds to the liberating truth that is ours in Christ. The perfect love that casts out fear has been poured into our hearts and gives the enemy no place in us!

With Love,

Pastor Tom
